Why does God want us to fear him?

Isaiah 8:13
13 The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread.

Jeremiah 5:22
22 Should you not fear me? declares the Lord. Should you not tremble in my presence?

Jeremiah 32:40
40...and I [God] will inspire them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me.

Ah, we are to fear God, so we will never turn away from God? That makes sense.

And if we do fear God...

God will protect you:

Psalm 115:11
11 You who fear him, trust in the Lord - he is their help and shield.

Blessings come from God:

Psalm 128:1-2
1 Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him. 2 You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.

Psalm 115:13
13 he will bless those who fear the Lord - small and great alike.

Makes God love you:

Psalm 147:11
11 the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.

Psalm 33:18
18 But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,

Psalm 103:17
17 But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children's children-

Makes God have compassion for you:

Psalm 103:13
13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;

Psalm 34:11-16
11 Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. 12 Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, 13 keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. 14 Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. 15 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry; 16 but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to blot out their name from the earth.

Given the gift of knowledge in return:

Psalm 25:14
14 The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.

Proverbs 1:7
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 2:5
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

Proverbs 9:10
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Psalm 111:10
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

Makes you hate evil:

Proverbs 8:13
13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.

Makes you walk uprightly:

Proverbs 14:2
2 Whoever fears the Lord walks uprightly, but those who despise him are devious in their ways.

Leads to patient calming rest:

Proverbs 19:23
23 The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.

Psalm 112:7
7 They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.

Makes you humble:

Proverbs 22:4
4 Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life.

As you can see, the combination of fearing God while trusting him patiently, seems to unlock the door to God's heart?

So, how do you learn to fear God more? To get all this love, attention, compassion, knowledge, understanding, and blessings in heaven that do not end, from God?

Usually, you have to go through some personal tragedy, some great and long suffering for you to gain this wisdom and fear of the Lord. Where the amount of wisdom and knowledge you gain is directly proportional to the depth and length of your suffering. But if you want to skip this step of suffering, and cheat a little bit, I will describe the mindset of a person with great fear of the Lord, so you can possibly adopt, your own way of course.

The mindset comes from a keen understanding that God and Satan are playing a very serious game down here on earth, and we humans are expendable players. We are all sacrificial lambs, sheep from the flock marked for slaughter, as God said, helping God win the game. We are all pawns on the devil's chessboard an inmate once lamented.

Think of a video game, where God and Satan each have a joystick, taking turns making us do stuff all day long. Satan is trying to kill us, while God is trying to save us. If Satan can kill us all off, as animals do, Satan wins the game. If God can get us to live in peace with each other, as gentle spirits kept alive by the light of God are supposed to do, then God wins the game. After God wins the game, God extinguishes Satan's spirit forever. Then we all get off this rock alive, into heaven for a brief time, ending up on our new earth for all eternity.

That our world itself is a three-dimensional computer simulation of matter and energy, created and controlled by source code (light) written by God. Where time itself is just a highly manipulated variable. Where we humans, trapped within this science, only have free will between periods of total, utter, and complete control by God and Satan.

That the scripts for our lives were written by God well before the game even began. That we humans are mere actors on a stage, puppets on strings. Our only job for God on earth is to win the game for God, to defeat Satan using peace. Using only words out of our mouths. To put down demons with only words of rebuke. Be heavenly warriors for God, until our day of slaughter finally arrives.

To not lead selfish lives perusing sex, money, and comfort. But rather make ourselves useful to God. For God to easily influence to do good things, avoid bad things, seek justice, help the poor and oppressed, save lives, thus scoring points for God in the game.

So, as we actively run around on earth, avoiding our day of slaughter, God expects us to pay attention to the game, and not turn away from God doing our own thing. Thus, making ourselves useless to God.

When God discovers a human who finally fears him, God wastes no time sending that player on dangerous missions. Missions that entail great and long suffering, even death. Knowing all of this, tends to cause you to become very afraid of what God has in store for you next. Sometimes leaving you trembling before God with dread. Which makes God very happy. As you are even more useful to God at that point. You finally get it (and great is your reward in heaven.)

Do you fear God? I do not blame you if you do not want to fear God. It sure has its consequences. But it does open up God's heart, and his blessings received in heaven will never end for those who feared God on earth. Those who feared God on earth, wear the crowns in heaven forever.
